HairLight 2020401

The counterweight is simply a plywood box with something heavy in it. In my case, I had a chunk of steel lying around
which measured roughly 3" (7.6 cm) x 1.5" (3.8 cm) x 2.75 "(7 cm), so I built a box that would fit around it fairly snugly.
It was actually a little heavier than I needed to counterbalance my flash, but because I can adjust its distance from
the pivot point, it was no problem.

If, as I suspect, you don't have appropriate-sized chunks of steel lying around waiting to decide what they want to be used for,
used wheel-balancing weights (available from tire shops) would probably serve, although you might need to make
a slightly larger box to accommodate enough of them to work.

Slightly oversize holes on the ends of the box, above the weight, and another wingbolt complete the counterweight.
