I was quite surprised to see lots of fox tracks around this morning (next two photos) because it didn’t seem like the best place to see a fox. I kept wondering about them - it was hard not to because they were everywhere - and I wondered if maybe someone let a dog run loose in the area. I was fairly sure they were fox tracks because fox tracks are distinct enough from dog tracks to be fairly easily distinguished, but I also had to consider that maybe I just didn’t know fox tracks well enough to be sure. Then I came around a corner and came face to face with this fox. Initially the fox was out in the open, but I didn’t see her as I came stomping through the crusty snow until she jumped up and ran for cover. I caught this photo here, we exchanged stares for a minute, and then she disappeared into the thick bush.
