January 16, 2012

I was doodling on my phone with a image I posted here earlier this week.
I posted a similar image on Facebook last night with the caption below.
There were some interesting responses.

They left their fate to dimly lit cockpit instruments because the natural horizon was getting increasingly hard to see. Heading out over the ocean just before nightfall is a risky business; particularly in weather like this.

The little four-seater is getting buffeted by swirling wind but, so far, they are outrunning the hammer-strong turbulence boiling off of the building storm ...

OKAY, WE NEED A PLOT ... I ask you to use your imagination and tell us where they are going and why. Who are they? How old are they? Where are they coming from? There are no wrong answers. I took this shot with a telephoto lens on my iPhone. So I have no idea what that plane's actual mission was.

This is outstanding! Flying into the eye of the storm....will they make it out alive?

I love the photo. The plane really pops out from the clouds and storm. As for the story, I'll leave that to more imaginative people. My first thought was drug runners. Who else would fly in a storm unless there was a lot of money at the end of the trip? Like I said, someone with more imagination. :)

At the helm is a student pilot, who's almost completed her training. Her instructor is the co-pilot, and he's both calm (having been in this situation many times before) and a bit anxious, wondering if his student is really prepared. In the remaining seats are two teen-agers, going for their first-ever small plane ride.

Oh, did I mention the pilot is their mother, and the instructor is their father?
