Snowy Owl??

This morning we were out looking for the Snowy Owl in the areas where it normally hangs out without any success. I scanned a distant rocky shoreline and noticed an upright, white object with streaks sitting on a rock and from that long distance it looked like Snowy. Another photographer had a look and agreed it looked like Snowy, and the lot of us then took off power walking the long distance back to the cars so we could get on the road and drive the further distance to the rocky shoreline. As we walked towards the rocky shoreline, being careful not to startle Snowy, something seemed wrong. We should have started seeing it, I thought, and as we continued to get closer, eventually creeping along the rocky shoreline itself, nothing came into view. Then, with one more step forward, this propane tank sitting on a rock became visible. We had been fooled! This was our Snowy Owl! All that walking and trouble for a rusty propane tank!

Ha ha...someone will likely paint some yellow eyes on it before the Winter is done;-)

There is still at least one in the area as I saw and photographed it this afternoon ....

Hey, that's not Snowy the beloved owl. It's Rusty the discarded propane tank.

We've all done that! I bet most of can come up with lots of similar stories:-) Especially when we really want to see something (all the great gray owls I've seen that weren't!). But a great photo and story you got out of your escapade.

The snowy owl there hasn't been seen for a number of days now. Not there today either.

Yes and I just took their word for it. Stupid me, I should have checked it myself.

OK, I will admit that other photographer was me. Maybe I need a bigger lens :-)

But such a handsome, weathered old propane tank.
I think 'Snowy' suits him.

Funny story, Chris, and the visual you created with your escapades had me chuckling. I have turned many burnt tree stumps in Yellowstone into bears!
