Good Intentions

I wasn't feeling well today so I stayed at home from work. I thought I might finally get the chance to sit down and read these books on photography. Having studied art history at school, I have some knowledge of the famous painters, styles and techniques of art. I really don't know much about the history of photography so I thought it would be a good idea to get some books from the library and do a bit of studying.
Still haven't read them as I somehow ended up matching up odd socks instead of reading.....

Looks like a chilled day ahead ... let me know if the photography book is good!

Now there are two books that I would want for rel and not in an electronic version. A fine still life with the cup and tissue. Hope you feel better and can 'dig in'. V

I have the Annie Leibovitz-book, too. I like it, have on the kitchen table and am reading some for breakfast every day. Takes time...

We used to drive Dick' Mum almost over the edge with our huge pile of unmatched socks when the children were that age! This is a really lovely image... hope you're feeling much better after the rest day!

Don't do it Mairead...matching odd socks is like entering the black hole of time.
I always wonder where the missing ones have gone to?
Feel better soon, it's cold season here too. V

Matching socks is the perfect activity when you're not feeling well. Hope tomorrow is a better day for you.

Sorry that you are 'under the weather'. At least your sock drawer with be organized! I like your composition and the various textures and tones.

Very nicely composed image with this arrangement and lighting. Harry Callahan said it is better to do photography, than to read about it. "V"

That sounds like an awful lot of socks! Hope you feel better, or at least get time to read.

Hope that you're feeling better Mairead! I have a bag full of odd socks that need matching up....
Beautiful still-life! :)

Ah the best laid plans....and just how many socks did you manage to match? ;)

Wonderful still life capture. Taking photographs and putting them on pbase provides a prety good education. You soon get a sense of what has worked and what hasn't. V.
John King14-Nov-2011 21:15
A splendid still life composition, especially with that charming cup and saucer.

So sorry you are under the weather, but your photo is very lovely.

Nice cozy photo. I hope you're feeling better soon!

The tissue box combined with the tea cup (along with the shadowy background) give a good sense of a period of convalescing from the schnuffles. It's on such occasions that you need something easier than a book; may I recommend the DVD set "The Genius Of Photography"? (You can find it on Amazon.co.uk and doubtless a bunch of other places.) Video requires less focus than reading, much better when you're under the weather.

I think I'd rather just look at the pictures - or better yet, go and take some - like you've done here pretty well!
