Don't touch!

These are the berries of Poison Ivy. Leaves, flowers and berries, in fact, every part of this plant can cause an allergic reaction amongst those who are susceptible to this plant. I used to be immune and could walk with impunity around it, never reacted. But suddenly, this past summer, things changed and I got a severe reaction, to the point my leg and foot swelled up and I had to go on antibiotics and prednisone :-( Apparently one's immunity can change almost from one day to the next, and had I known that, I would have been more careful. I am now! It is not an experience I'd care to repeat.

I didn't know that poison ivy had berries. I used to get poison ivy very badly as a kid when the dogs would go through it and then I would hug them. Animals can carry the oil on their coats. Thanks for the lesson on the berries. V

I never noticed the fruits, I don't seem to be allergic, never bothered about the plant, and I'm always poking around bushes. Hope you have no sideeffectsafter.

Interesting—I've never seen them in shrub form like this. Ours are always vines, or low-growing, like a ground cover. As far as I know (not 100% sure if I ever touched it, but probably have in all my days traipsing through the woods) I am immune ... for now. Nicely detailed shot and DOF to simplify the background. V

I too am allergic, beautiful, but something I must keep far away from.

I've always been allergic so I avoid it. I just get a rash though. These are very pretty and I can see why people would want to pick them. V.
