The original church dated from the 12th century. This church was rebuilt in 1516 in the very latest building material at that time....small bricks. It is one of the oldest completely brick churches in the country, as well as being one of the last parish churches to be completely rebuilt prior to the reformation. The total demolition of a church was very rare indeed....a bit of a mystery as fire would not completely destroy stone walls.
