Mengrai at the centre. i was wandering down a little alley a few days ago and found a shrine to King Mengrai. This shrine was presumably placed by his son and heir at the spot where he was killed by a bolt of lightning in 1317. On one internet site I had read that he was killed in 1311, but I reckon that the Thais (especially the Thais of Chiang Mai)would know, so that's the year I'm recording.
