shooting without a light meter can be scary at first particularly in difficult scenes like this... so I just bracketed the shots, three shots 1 stop apart.. one was far too dark, the other two were usable.
this one is the +1 exposure.. was still a stop too dark but fortunately film latitude made it recoverable.
