Though not belonging to the Quebrada you can make a nice daytrip from Tilcara to this extreme environment, the altiplanos of Argentina. At a height of about 3500mtrs with high peaks up to 6500 mtrs around they are a tough environment to survive, yet people do. They are connected to the altiplanos like the ones found in Chile (Atacama) and Bolivia (Salar de Uyuni) and can be thousands square kilometers large. Purmamarca is the most nearby city from where to drive up the Questa de Lipan to the Salinas Grandes. I will make a seperata gallery of the altiplanos of Argentine, called 'The Puna' later.
