Another "lifer" for me. Sightings of Hudsonian Godwits have been quite frequent in our area these past few weeks. Groups from 12 to 30+ have been encountered along the shores of the Ottawa River. This is not a common occurrence for our area and is probably due to water levels being very low this fall thus creating lots of exposed beaches and sandbanks along the shores for them to forage on. The above lone Godwit was found in the company of five Long-billed Dowitchers, also a first for me. We were able to approach this group of six to within 10 feet whilst they just kept on foraging and/or sleeping. They seemed to have no fear of people.
