Introducing new students (caloiros) to university traditions. When I first came to Portugal, Praxe was often violent and designed to humiliate the caloiros; however, there has been a change in attitude over the past 15 years, turning praxe from something to be dreaded into a bit of fun for everyone involved (although I'm sure some faculties may still cling to the old traditions). Leading the praxe here, wearing the black capes and suits that are the uniform of Portuguese university students, are senior students - possibly members of the student association or the Tuna (academic choir).
