The Cappella di Piazza (Chapel of the Square) is attached to the Palazzo Pubblico (town hall) beneath the 88m tall Torre del Mangia.
It was designed by Giovanni di Agostino and Giovanni di Cecco and built between 1352 and 1376.
The upper part was redecorated during the 15th century. The now faded fresco above the altar was painted by Giovanni Antonio Bazzi in the 16th century.
