Cistercian nuns at Riseberga. The Convent was founded at the close of the 12th century. It grew into a powerful landowner, thanks to extensive donations. At the time of the Reformation, in 1527, the possessions of the Convent were confiscated by the greatest cultural disaster in Swedish history King Gustav Wasa ( by tearing down all of the several hundred years old cloisters and the annals that were kept there and at the same time the founder of the Swedish state ). In 1546 the Convent was struck by lightning and burned down.
The nuns dedicated most of their time to prayer, meditation, masses, processions and reading. In between, there was scope for practical work. The nuns were very able gardeners. They taught and copied handwriting or occupied themselves in weaving and embroidery.
