The statue of Dante Alighieri (1265 - 1321) by Ugo Zannoni was erected here in Piazza dei Signori in 1865, the 6000th birthday of the famous Italian poet.
For this reason, Piazza dei Signori is also known to the locals as Piazza Dante.
