These pictures were taken only seconds before and after totality. Since Tatakoto was not directly on the centerline, the slight difference in position can be seen in the offset of the diamond ring effect seen in this image of two exposures that were combined in Photoshop. Also the image on the left shows shadow bands, which were projected onto the thin layer of clouds above, and had never been seen before, a very rare occurrence, and this is why the sky is brighter for this part of the image as the cloud disappeared before 3rd contact.
