Butterfly Habitat at the Day Use Picnic Area

Presqu'ile Provincial Park

This field beyond the outhouse is filled with goldenrods and asters in August and September; these flowers attract many butterfly species, including Eastern Tailed Blues, Common Ringlets, crescents, fritillaries, Clouded and Orange Sulphurs, Cabbage Whites, Common Buckeyes (September 2011) and, of course, Monarchs! It was here that I saw my first and only Giant Swallowtail in August 2011. There are usually many darners and Black Saddlebags patrolling the skies above the field.
