The oldest remaining grain elevator along the I&M Canal
Constructed 1861 - 1862 by John Armour (meatpacking family), it reached
peak operational volume in 1881 with commerce flowing up the canal to
Chicago as well as flowing downward toward the Mississippi River. While owned
by M. J. Hogan, the mechanical operation was powered by coal-fueled steam.
