(4 of 8) On the bay side shoreline south of High Pines and north of the 3rd xover there is a flat area that emerges just after mid tide, and from mid-August through September flocks of 50-300 terns congregate from time to time. So far this year I have had Common, Least, Forster's, Roseate, and Black terns. Today there were about 80 birds, and as I checked them I was surprised to find seven (7) juvenile Black Skimmers! These are the first Skimmers I've seen on the Beach in at least 10 years, and they are the first juveniles I've seen anywhere. Juveniles had been spotted on nearby Plymouth Beach during the previous few days but not this many.
It was almost sunset, and so the light was limited. However some of the shots give a good feel for what a juvenile Skimmer looks like.
