I met Nenek when she came over to Raja Pu’un’s house for breakfast. She was the sweetest old lady I have ever met, always smiling and displaying her surprisingly perfect set of teeth. I was told that she owns some land and works in the paddy fields employing Indonesians to assist her. She lives alone in a fairly large wooden house which she funded with her own savings. Not bad for a widow who used to work as a support staff in the local school. Besides her perfect teeth, I was also drawn to her weathered hands. They were a display of her experience and toils.
