Chrysler Hemispherical Combustion or "Hemi"

Legend
A Plymouth is the new home for this original Hemi,
one of the most famous automobile motors of all time.
They came, I believe, in 3 displacements topping out at
392 CID. Even unmodified they were very powerful and
well built motors. They've become very rare, since they
were used in many racing applications.
Story:
A friend of mine when younger was with another acquittance in a very old (even at the time)Chrysler on a 4 lane nearby. The Chrysler was really, really rusty, with fenders that would flap in the wind at over 60mph. They were headed to an amusement area near here, when a brand new Pontiac Gran Prix pulled up alongside, going at a pretty good clip. Looking over, the driver said, "well it's got the crossed racing flags" which were the sign of a 421 high output motor. So he decided to have some fun and match the Pontiac's speed, which of course kept increasing as it was matched. Pretty soon the Pontiac sounded like a bee, and my friend said they must have been going at least 130MPH. Then the driver of the old flapping fendered Hemi-powered Chrysler says "should I kick in the 4 barrel" which he did, and left the Gran Prix like it was stopped. As far as I know it's a true story. I don't recommend driving at this speed on even a deserted highway (which this was), but we did lots of crazy stuff when we were young...and I think this story illustrates why these Chrysler engines have become the basis of legend.
