We had a pretty long day today. We spent quite a bit of time in Missoula visiting Fort Missoula and walking around the farmer's market. Then we headed out down the Lewis and Clark trail. For those of you that don't know, one of the more harrowing episodes was the trip across the Lolo Pass in September of 1805. They were in the midst of an early snow fall and just about starved to death. Before attempting the crossing of the mountains, they camped out at a place they called Traveler's Rest for a few days. The particular site of their campsite and latrine has been located, so we had the chance to stand right where the Corps of Discovery actually stayed about 206 years ago. This hearth site was only recently discovered, so the park hasn't had a chance to really develop it (obviously). This was pretty cool for Ginny and myself.
