A quiet bay at Whittier on a Sunday afternoon. Whittier is a port used by the Alaska Ferry for transit around Prince William Sound. It is unique because it was used as a military installation during WWII to hide communications and radar stations from overhead observation due to its nearly constant clouds, fog and overcast skies. Today it is a fishing village with no individual houses. Workers live in a single tenement building seen at the right of the photo. Whittier was badly damaged by the earthquake of 1964.
