Unpicked lock

An old branch of the Rhine-Marne canal, decommissioned in 1969 when the Arzviller Inclined Plane came into service. It raises boats no more, just mosquitoes and cyclists.

I hope at least some water still runs through it so wildlife will have a nice place to hang out

Interesting history. Too bad they don't plant it as gardens or something. Could be really attractive.

It looks similar to the locks here in Ohio, which were built in the 1830s. Ours were put out of business by railroads and the flood of 1914.

Interesting to learn something about this. Too bad no water flows there any more
