The thing which saddens me is the disdain for being dark - so that these women, who are hard workers cover up so ardently in order to not get dark skin. Dark skin denotes a field worker, a very low status in Vietnam. Communism and valuing the worker is a myth. The cleaner, the field worker, is not respected. Women cover up, sun or snow, so that their skin is not darkened. (Men don't, so it is sexist as well as findicating financial discrimination) People I knew who had gardens didn't use them, because it would expose them to the sun. I wonder how they fare with regard to vitamin D?
