Wisconsin Desert

Buckhorn State Park, Necedah, Wisconsin

Sandblow formed when the thin layer of topsoil was removed by erosion revealing the extensive sand deposits from a glacial lake around 10,000 years ago. The microclimate allows only for heat tolerant vegetation, in this case Jack Pine.
