Some shots of or taken from the Gümüşlü Cami (Silvery Mosque), dating from 1326 it was the earliest Ottoman mosque in Amasya, however, 1491 they rebuilt it after an earthquake, 1612 after a fire, 1688 for no reason the Lonely Planet guide which I quote gives, then they extended it in 1903 and restored it in 1988. Views from here are nice.

Anyone visiting this mosque and expecting seeing more silver here than elsewhere, will be disappointed: this house of prayer got his actual name of ‘Gümüşlû Camii’ from the 1688 restoration, which was ordered (and paid for) by Gümüşlüzade Ibrahim Bey, a state official from a family originating from Gümüş, a little mining town 25 km west of Merzifon.

On the picture: The main entrance to the prayer hall. The wooden portico dates from 1903; it has a small dome in its center, with a plastered and painted inside (decoration in classical Ottoman style, executed in ‘kalem işi’ / = work of the pen/paintbrush). The marble frame of the entrance is classical Ottoman too, including its characteristic muqarnas (stalactite) vaulting.
