By 1875, there were 4 different RR stations in Denver. Then, the Union Pacific Railroad proposed creating one central "Union Station". In 1880, the Union Pacific, the Denver & Rio Grande Western, the Denver, South Park & Pacific, and the Colorado Central began building Union Station, which opened in 1881. A fire in 1894 destroyed much of the 1881 depot. After a renovation in 1914, the station is today being renovated once again.
