Soon after birth the ducklings open their eyes. A little more than a day after hatching, ducklings can run, swim, and forage for food on their own. They stay in the nest for less than a month. About 10 weeks after the ducklings hatch the young will lose their soft down and they will grow their adult feathers by the late fall. They are able to fly after only two months of life. ~ National Geographic
