Stinkbug nymph (Brochymena)

Found at the Fletcher Wildlife Garden. This is a large, approx, 15 mm, stinkbug. Most stinkbugs are beneficial predators of insects such as tent caterpillars and many other moth larvae (caterpillars) that can be detrimental to forest health. Some stinkbugs eat vegetation, but the damage they do is minimal compared to the good they do overall in helping control injurious insects. For example, the two-spotted stinkbug is a big-time predator on the Colorado potato beetle. This latter stinkbug is tiny, but exceptionally striking when you see it up close. Be nice to these guys, they are helpful!
