West Feliciana Parish - St Francisville - Rosedown Plantation

view map

This weekend we took some time off from the Christmas preparation and went to St Francisville Louisiana. While there one of the attractions we took in was Rosedown. We were fortunate in that it was Christmas at Rosedown, and the usual admission was waived.

Rosedown is one of the gems among plantation homes in that it has remained virtually intact from it's construction in 1830, remaining in the same family hands until the 1950's. It serves as a study about ante-bellum life in the south.

The State of Louisiana purchased Rosedown after examining it's tourist draw, comparing it to Biltmore in Ashville, NC. St Francisville is the second most visited town in Louisiana, (after New Orleans)a surprising fact that we just learned.
