Yes, the water did get a LOT deeper. This was just the start... Today the Missouri River and the land along side of it are merged. There is no sign of green except for the tops of trees. From the gallery http://www.pbase.com/britestar/2011_flood_of_the_century

Water , grass and trees along the flood plain is well composed and deceivingly looks peaceful and inviting.
