The Final Battle

After two months of effort, the red stallion finally gave up the fight to the younger male on the right. The red was fighting to keep a mare that had been with him for over three years. A closer look well reveal a wound on the red stallion's neck that was a factor in his final loss. It later became severely infected and cancerous.

After a year away from the herd in exile, he is finally coming back into his once fierce fighting style and I would predict he will have won back the mare he lost a year ago.

We will see on my next visit to the desert.

These are wonderful pictures.
I adopted a big Grey horse in the early 80's that looked much like the White Stallion in your pictures. He has since passed but not before making an excellent companion to not only myself but others, and finally an orpanage where he is burried with a headstone of his own. It has always been a dream of mine to go and watch these magnificant creatures in the desert. Thanks for sharing, it's the next best thing.

I understand the reason for the fighting but it makes me feel so sorry when I see ugly wounds on one of these beautiful creatures.
