A Maine Shelf Cloud (6/18)

New Gloucester, ME

You don't often see shelf clouds this good looking in Maine. They are the result of cooler
air dropping out of the thunderstorm (in the downdraft) and spreading out ahead of the
storm, while encountering warmer air. They are often a sign of strong winds.

More info on shelf clouds.
