The Ranger was followed by a Mercury Mk 2 I was now gaining experience at the club level with 1st & 2nd places it was now time to go to rallies and watch the top teams racing (4 in a circle), my first rally was the Festival of Britain at the Wembley stadium 1951 & yes I walked on the turf.
The sound of the Dyna jets in the stadium was unbelievable, and watching Phil Smith dog fighting with the Flying Fort even flying inverted head on attack then he stuffed the FW 190 in to the ground. most impressive was the Dyna powered c/l Vampire flown by J Nunn but on the glide in it court fire and burnt out.
My next rally was the All Herts Rally at Raddlett 1952 and my first experience to the sound of class B racing and Norman Butcher flying his Sorcerer in the finals so I ordered the plans of the Sorcerer and a ETA 29 but after several ignition fires caursed by sub piston induction I shelved class B in 1956 and the model is still in the loft with the ETA.
