A common species around Ottawa and Magee that is too often overlooked. Check out those glossy, Egyptian Blue upperparts in the sunlight!
I spent woefully little time at the Ottawa refuge, where the feeders always attracted sparrows aplenty, and the woods behind the refuge center actually produced some of the stand out sightings of the May season (e.g. Worm-eating Warbler, Mourning Warbler, and Blue and Golden-winged Warblers). While the wetlands held worthy Midwest birds like Yellow-headed Blackbirds and Snowy Egret among others.
