The Reddish Egret is Florida's least common heron. Its rate of recovery following protection has been slower than for other species. There are two phases in this species: all white plumage or blue-gray with reddish-brown head and neck. Breeding adults develop flowing black plumes, a maned appearance on the head and neck, a bright pink bill with a black tip, purple around the eyes, and cobalt legs.
