This small creek in English Landing connects directly to the Missouri River. That makes this the first place in the Park to flood. As heavy rains cause the River to rise, this stream then over flows its banks. The creek floods before the river does.
Luckily, it's been a very dry June for Parkville. This lack of rain has helped to prevent eariler weather-related, large scale flooding river flooding at Parkville. If this had been a wet year - as it was back in 1993 - the current situation could have been a lot worse. Unfortunately, the amount of rainfall in Parkville has little to do with the flood of 2011. Lack of rain will not stop the flood.
The flood waters are coming from the North. In a few days, everything you see in this photo will be totally under water.
