The "Come and Take It" flag to right of the door is a well known phrase in Texas history. It refers to the Battle of Gonzales"n 1835. When the Mexicans and Americans were at odds in 1835, the Mexican Government sent troops to Texas to retrieve the artillery they had lent them in 1831 to fight the indians. When the Mexican troops arrived, the Texans were in no mood to give up the cannon and told the Mexican Army to "Come and Take It, and flags bearing that message were made and hung over the town. The Mexican Army went home without the cannon.
