The little town of Vitré is a jewel of medieval architecture
nested in a calm countryside, dominated by an impressive fortified castle of 13th century.
Vitré is not far from Rennes, where we had settled our “headquarters” for a few days.
We decided to choose Vitré as our second destination for a day trip for two quite banal reasons.
The first one was that from Rennes we could get there by train,
making our trip quicker and easier than by local buses.
The second one (I feel a little ashamed to confess it)
was that Sergey, my travel mate, who is Russian and has a certain difficulty with French pronunciation,
found out he could pronounce easily the name “ Vitré”
so he had a sudden liking for the place,
even without having any idea about what it might look like.
As always we were lucky in our casual choice,
since we had the joy to discover a splendid little town,
once again a little aside from most beaten touristic tacks.
If you feel like, you might follow us once again in our casual peregrinations.
