I have been fortunate enough to see an amazing number of life birds this year. The Williamson's sapsucker is only the latest one. This pair worked on a small pine tree for most of several days. It was difficult to photograph these birds because of the large crowds drawn by the sight of up to six photographers with long lens all pointing in the same direction. Families with kids and couples in tropical vacation clothing (the temperature was in the 30s) would pile out of their cars looking for the bear we MUST be photographing. When you told them it was a sapsucker and then explained that was like a woodpecker they would leave in noisy disgust. LOL.
I posted several photos of the male and female individually behind this one. Click next above if you would like to see them.
Note: There was a large rock slide in the area where this tree can be found. The roads are closed as the area is cleared and assessed if there is a potential for future slides. I hope this little tree survived so that others can see this sapsucker also.
