Giant Ichneumon Wasp

I have never seen these before but we have a tree that had
4 or 5 of them "drilling" holes to lay eggs. It was nice to
find out they are harmful and do not sting!

Gorgeous color. I've only seen one once before but never got a shot as nice as this. Beautiful job!

Ohhh, good for you!! I have only seen them a couple of times and only photographed them once. They are impressive. This is the female with her long, long ovipositor. And you are so right, they do not sting. She is probing the trees for the larvae of the big Horntail wasp, into which she lays her eggs!
