On one of the islands over the river from the main part of Hoi An. Woven bamboo, split, framed and coated with resin or pitch. it floats. Everyone here has one in which to escape the annual floods. The same 'basket boats are used like a dinghy in the bays everywhere, for fishing, for going out through the surf to the bigger boats. They are extremely versatile.
