4th - Preparation

Cheltenham, Glos.

It's never too early to plan the upcoming weekend's walking activities...

Actually, this is just an excuse to take a photo of (some of) my large-scale 1:25000 OS Explorer maps - things of beauty they are, to be bent and folded and shoved in trouser pockets and dropped in puddles, and then pored over in the comfort of an armchair to find just the right walk

Haaaa! You can't do THAT on a Kindle, Mr. Normanton!

lots to be learned scanning ahead with a good map...that's a great scale...I have four of the standard OS series...#'s 98, 190, 191, 203,...they are very informative yet set at 1:50 000...yours are double that so must catch even the local puddles..

hehehe...@ the reference to MR N's K***le
Maps like books in the written form, rule !!!! :)

Maps do make great study material. I like the way you think.
Phillip Normanton04-May-2011 22:40
Well obviously you'd do that on your GPS whilst linked to your laptop... a proper GPS that is, not one of those silly SatNav thingies. Who'd ever think of using a Kindle for map-reading?! Tsk tsk. Just shows how little you know about them ;o)
NB. I'm reading an actual book at the moment as I have a little pile to get through... but it's not as easy as reading on the Kindle, oh nooo. Not a bit. ;oP

I understand the pasion and absolute joy a map can bring you, and agree not something to be kept in prestine condition but pored over used and loved like a pair of your favourite old walking boots.
