A Great Egret perched in a post oak tree on a windy day preens its feathers.
Great Egrets seem to be the least elusive of all herons. Other herons that
can occasionally be spotted year round at A. H. "Pappy" Elkins Lake include
Snowy Egrets, Green Herons, Black Caped Night Herons, and the wary Great Blue Heron.
