Tipu Tip is the nickname of a famous Arab trader who built up a large trading empire in Eastern Congo in the 19th century. After the Belgian colonization of the Congo, he returned to Zanzibar where he acquired many clove plantations and built his house. He died in 1905. The government is planning to restore the house.
