Young Common raven

This little guy has fallen from its nest and is being cared for on the ground by the adults. The people working at this location have told me that they, the people who work there, are protective of this baby and keep an eye on it. Apparently when it first fell, several weeks ago, it was still a ball of fluffy down. It is surviving and seems relatively well. Falling from nests is a real risk for young birds. I'm not sure why the folk didn't put this baby back in the nest. Perhaps it is not easy to access. Makes me very sad to see this and I know I'll worry about it a lot now. Much as I was interested in seeing a young raven, I'd rather be ignorant of the situation, coward that I am!

Hope he makes it. Great shot of the poor youngster. V

Hope it makes it. I'd add some branches for it to sit on so it's not on the concrete all the time.

I hope this little guy survives, Christine!

Glad to hear it is doing ok. Can anyone get it to the wild bird rescue centre? As you know, they are amazing with youngsters and worked wonders with the Great Horned Owlet we brought in last year. I imagine the nest is too high and trecherous to reach as we encountered last week. I am also sure that the wind storm likely caused some more situations like this so I am on the look out. He/She is very cute - good for bringing positive attention to the situation.

Poor little guy!
that is what I worry could happen at the pigeons nest
Good to know the parents care for him though!

Oh this is such a rare sight! The nests are usually pretty high for raven. Ravens are really smart, and I am sure the baby will make it. It is fortunate to be in an area where people are keeping an eye on him so it is relatively safe.
We had a complete robin nest that fell to the ground in our backyard. We took the nest and put it back where it was, solidifying it with metal wire. The parents kept using it.

What a cute little kid hoping it will go well for the future! V

I hope he thrives! We often have a similar thing happen here, and we put the baby into
a cage and hang it in a tree and the adults feed it and care for it through the wires
of the cage, while we make sure the nestling has water.

He's a real cutie! Thankfully ravens are large birds; I imagine they can do a good job keeping other birds of prey away from this baby. Hopefully the four-legged critters won't find the baby either. V

One fell out of its nest today at my house but had enough flight hours to make it into one of the larger shrubs. Mom was watching the whole time.

looks a survivor yet in some distress...beautiful, vulnerable...well worth all the energy to preserve...heart-rending image...V

I always put the baby back in the nest if I can reach it. It is a myth that the birds will reject the baby because of human smells. I had to kill a baby bird while on my lunch hour yesterday. It fell in the road and the car in front of me clipped it. I had to finish it off. :( Couldn't bear to watch it suffering.

Nice shot of this raven chick, Christine. Thanks for the captioned info and hopefully it will fledge soon.

He is a cutie with those blue eyes and big beak. Good to hear that the parent birds are still caring for him after all these weeks. Ravens make good parents.
