1970s Robaire

canons of old geneva.jpg

Geneva Switzerland

This indifferent pic started as an almost no-neg which was energised by a good scanner. From then on it was manual work to today’s image. In another life Robaire was from time to time in Geneva
as an OZ delegate to an International Committee. The Committee existed to create systems assisting international trade of electronic components. A meeting lasted one week.
Gentle readers will understand that, for such a committee to exist, it required quite strict conditions for those English speaking delegates to consider as acceptable any café/restaurant suggested:
These included the hotels (of medium quality) being quite a distance from the café under consideration, often in Old Geneva ensuring a long walk back thus aiding digestion of very rich food.
There also would be either blue and white or red and white check tablecloths and a comfortable matching of street curtains.
Finally and not too difficult a condition was that the lady at the till would be of a size suggesting “we can see who ate all the leftovers”.
Such a place existed quite close to the Ancient Canon(s) in the pic. This was taken in low light 30 to 40 years ago and was taken on a fixed lens 35mm camera.
The brand is forgotten but may have been only moderately indifferent. We have sought to get some local commentary from our close Mate,
Petros of Geneva and will add such to this as and when it occurs. Petros is the most erudite of our Mates and quite partial from his youth to Retsina.
Meanwhile you may care to go to this Google link to see what Robaire often saw but sadly failed to adequately capture.
