Aplectrum hyemale (Puttyroot)

This gorgeous orchid sends up a flower stalk in May followed by a large green leaf with whitish stripes in fall. The leaf then persists through Winter and disappears at flowering time or shortly thereafter. Rare in NJ, but secure globally-ranked S1-G5.
