The Souq

Doha (Qatar)

The original Souq Waqif was razed to the ground and a new Souq, (using traditional
materials and sandstone) has been built to replace it.

It’s a maze of narrow streets where you can buy almost everything.
Walking through the narrow streets you are very aware of the smell of many different oriental spices and in other areas the smells of different strong Arabic perfumes.

The main street is wider with many restaurants and coffee shops where locals visit to enjoy and smoke Hookahs provided by the coffee shops,
but they do bring their own mouth piece to fit on the end of the pipes tube.

The Souq attracts many tourists who barter prices with vendors for various goods,
sometimes it’s possible to get a 50% discount,
but you need to walk away and return a few times to get the best discount.
